Zydrunas Ilgauskas has made a decision to leave LeBron James and his talents in South Beach. The Big man who spent much of his NBA Career as a Cleveland Cavalier has decided to retire. This will be the first time since joining the NBA LeBron James will be on his own without the Big man known as “Z” by his side. Ilgauskas made his decision in Cleveland today where he spent 12 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Many may remember the battles “Z” would have with his foot problems. His career was almost cut short after he had so many surgeries to his feet.
11 years ago was when Ilgauskas first may have considered retirement. Battling foot problems after foot problems Big “Z” decided to give it another shot. Many Cleveland fans came to love this big likable guy who holds records for playing in so many Cavalier games. Big “Z” would make it to two finals and a couple of All Star games as a Cleveland Cavalier. He may have thought going to the Miami Heat would have brought him an elusive NBA Championship he and LeBron chased for a couple of years when they were in Cleveland.
Little did Igauskas know the Miami heat and his buddy LeBron James would choke in the Championship games against Dallas. Ilgauskas is leaving the game he played so well without a ring. Staying in Cleveland wouldn’t have gotten him his ring either last year. However the people in Cleveland, some of the best sports fans in the world would have sent big “Z” off in style. Ilgauskas could have come back and played in Miami next year. He picked up an option to do so in June.
After going through the Summer Ilgauskas made up his mind. “Enough is enough,” Ilgauskas told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “My body is beat up and I’m tired physically. There is no age limit, but everyone knows when it’s time.” The people in Cleveland will always have a soft spot in their heart for Ilgauskas. It was really to bad he let James lead him a stray. He should have retired wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform. Good luck to you Big “Z” the NBA will certainly miss you…..
