The Cleveland Indians will have a tough task tonight when they face Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer who has yet to lose a game this season. The Indians will be sending Scott Kazmir to the mound to face the mighty Tigers line-up.
Kazmir is 4-0 with a 4.26 ERA at Progressive Field this season. Facing Scherzer is a tall task for the Tribe, the guy has been great this season and could be one of the first guys to reach 14-0 if he can get his Tigers a win.
Scherzer would be the first guy to reach 14-0 if he wins since Roger Clemens did it in the 1986 season. It is funny to hear Scherzer talk about the 13-0 start he is off to. He said; “I don’t judge my season based on 13-0, I judge my season based on how I pitch. I thought I’ve pitched this season very well. I’m doing a lot of things right, generating swings and misses, minimizing walks, pitching with four pitches. And when I do that, I’m going to be successful.”
I’d say he has pitched well this season. You don’t get to 13-0 by not pitching well. In this day and age it is hard to imagine a guy not losing a game in 13 attempts. The Tribe can split the series with the Tigers if they can win tonight.
The Indians offense has to get it going early to beat Scherzer, he is one of those guys who gets tougher as the game goes on. If the Indians offense can get to Scherzer early on, he may fall off of his rhythm and the Indians could come away with a win.
