The Cleveland Indians were able to get 4-2/3's darn near perfect innings, from their starting pitcher Josh Tomlin in game-3 of the World Series. Tomlin gave up only 2 hits, he walked one and struck out one.
His performance was exactly what Indians manager Terry Francona needed. Fraoncona pulled the plug and yanked Tomlin who was performing magnificently. Tito brought in Andrew Miller, who has been on fire for the Indians throughout the play-offs.
Miller pitched 1-1/3 innings, not allowing a hit and striking out 3. Francona didn't let Miller into the batters box, and made the change, having Crisp hit for him. It turned out to be another golden move by Francona, who has made all the right moves through-out the 2016 post season.
Francona then put Shaw into the game to pitch. I don't know how Tito does it. He has to have nerves of steel. Shaw looked like he was going to struggle, but somehow he managed to work his way out of trouble.
He worked 1-2/3's, he gave up 2 hits and struck out 1. Then it was time for the Indians closer to come into the game. Francona brought in Cody Allen, who would work 1-1/3rd innings. It came down to the last strike of the night folks.
The cubs had the wining run on second base, and Allen needed to get the last out to keep the Indians shut-out and get the Tribe their second win in the series. Allen was in a duel with the Cubs Javier Baez, who would eventually strike out swinging and the Indians win game-3 and shut out the Chicago Cubs.
All 4 Indians pitchers did a great job, but it has to be the job of Tribe Manager Terry Francona that impressed me the most. This guy continues to make all the right moves. The Cleveland Indians are now just 2-wins away from capturing the 2016 World Series.
Lets hope they can do it......Go Tribe!!!
