When Indians reliever, Vinnie Pestano is healthy he makes the argument that he is the best set-up man in all of Major League Baseball. This wasn’t the case during the 2013 season and Pestano struggled in his role with the Tribe.
Now, the Indian are trying to low ball their ace set-up man with a ridiculously low offer. The Indians want to pay Pestano less than 1 million dollars. Pestano is seeking 1.45 million and the Indians countered with only 975,000.00.
Now the team is heading into arbitration. The Tribe hasn’t arbitrated anyone since George Bush was in the White House. Why start with Pestano. This guy brings it all when he makes the run from the bull-pen to the pitching mound.
There isn’t a pitcher in baseball that is intense as Pestano. He has had the entire off-season to rest his arm and the salary he is requesting is a drop in the bucket for a pitcher as good as Pestano can be.
The way we see it is, the Indians are playing with fire. They need to pay Pestano and hope for the best. The Indians pitching staff has been torn apart during the off-season and they know what they have with Pestano.
He not only has performed well as their set-up man, he can perform well as the teams closer too. They need to stop bickering over a few bucks and pay Pestano. He is worth a lot more than 1.45 million and the teams front office should know that.
It all comes down to the ownership. They don’t have the money it takes to compete with big-market teams and they were lucky to get some cash from the sale of STO last season to sign a few big names.
Now they are nickel and dimming one of their best players to try to save a few bucks. This is non-sense and they know Pestano is worth every penny his team is asking for.
It is time to pay the man. So shut up and give him the money…..
