The Cleveland Indians were able to win 2 out of 3 in Detroit and are now tied with the Tigers in first place in the American League Central. Cleveland started Zach McAllister today. He didn’t have his best day but he kept the Indians in the game. he gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and walked 3 while striking out 5.
Detroit sent Rick Porcello to the mound. He held the Indians offense to just 2 runs on 4 hits. He was able to shut the high-powered Indians offense down for most of the game. The Tribe did their damage with 2 outs in the inning most of the day. The 10th was no different.
The Indians tied the game up in the 9th when Michael Brantley was able to get a single to left field that drove in Bourn. Then the 10th came along and Francona went to the bench for one of the hottest hitters the Indians have on the team. He sent in Mark Reynolds to pinch hit for Chisenhall.
Reynolds did was Francona expected. He got a base hit and drove in the game winning run. It was up to Indians reliever Cody Allen to come in and get the last out for the Indians and earn his first major league save. He did it, he got the strike out and the Indians took the series from the Tigers and a share of first place.
Yan Gomes had another big day. He went 3 for 4 at the plate and he continues to call a great game behind the plate. Soon the Indians won’t even remember Lou Marson’s name.
