The Cleveland Indians head into the All-Star break 7 games over .500. How sweet is that? The Indians completed the sweep over the Kansas City Royals, despite the poor performance from Ubaldo Jimenez today.
Jimenez gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and only worked through 4 innings. He was having a typical Jimenez day. He couldn’t keep his control under control and he walked only 2 but he only struck out 2 hitters, that is the thing that really bothers me about Ubaldo’s outing today.
When Jimenez is on he can throw the ball past the best of them. When he struggles as he did today, look out the other team is going to put some runs on the broad. The Indians offense never gave up in a game they were trialing in after 2 innings.
The Indians fought all game long to take this game and complete the sweep over the Royals. Cleveland’s ball club is going to the All-Star break with one of their better records. The team has played 94 games and only have 68 games left in the regular season.
This team believes in itself and they are proving it with each series they take. The Tribe put together a 3 run 6th inning to make sure they would win this series and keep their winning streak going. They head into the break with a 4 game win streak intact.
If they can come back and play the second half of the season as well as they played the first half, the team has to be thinking post season play. It was the middle infielders Cabrera and Kipnis who helped the team win today.
Asdrubal drove in 2 with a double to deep right center and Kipnis followed that up with a single to drive in Cabrera. This team believes in itself and the fans are starting to believe too. It is going to be an exciting second half in the Cleveland area and having a manager like Terry Francona doesn’t hurt either.
He has done an excellent job in the first half of the season and I expect nothing less for the rest of the regular season.
