For the 2nd time inside of a 9 month period, the Cleveland Indians have sent Vinnie Pestano down to Triple A Columbus. Coming out of spring training it looked like Pestano was going to be the same set up an he was during the 2011 and 2012 season.
It didn’t last long as Pestano almost blew the Indian opportunity for the Cleveland Indians to get a win on Tuesday night. Pestano took to the mound, and the Indians had a 8-3 lead over the Padres. In just four pitches the game got a lot closer than Indians manger Terry Francona cared to see.
The Tribe sent Pestano packing earlier today, before the Indians played a double-header against San Diego. Cleveland needed the Pestano they had coming into the 2014 season. He looked as though he was going to be able to deliver and he just couldn’t.
You have to wonder if Pestano is over thinking his pitches. He might be trying too hard and if that is the case, this problem could be all in Vinnie’s head. He has to find a way to get back to the Pestano he was a couple of years ago.
He has the ability to do so, we saw that in spring training. He needs to dig deep and get the mental part under control, before he comes back to the Indians bull pen. If he can’t find himself, he may not be able to return to the Indians.
