The Cleveland Indians won their second game of the season beating the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in 11 innings. Ubaldo Jimenez got the start in last night’s game and he pitched well. Jimenez only gave up one run in the game and he struck out 6 and only walked 2 batters.
It was the kind of start Jimenez supporters were hoping for. He has struggled since coming to the Indians. It is starting to look like Ubaldo is starting to understand he doesn’t have to throw every pitch at 98 M.P.H. He used some of his other stuff in the game to control the strike zone.
If Jimenez is coming back into his own, it will be huge for the Indians, The team needs Jimenez this season as their number 2 man, there are still concerns about the Indians starting rotation and having a good Jimenez helps to silence some of the criticism of the Jimenez trade.
The Indians got their first run in the 3rd inning when Michael Brantley the red-hot Indians hitter singled to left driving in Bourn. The only run Jimenez gave up was also in the 3rd inning when Toronto’s 3rd baseman Maicer Izturis took one of Ubaldo’s pitches out of the park for a home run.
The game turned into a pitching duel, neither team scored another run until the 8th inning when the Indians scored their second run off of Blue Jays reliever Darren Oliver. The Indians had the lead into the ninth inning when they brought in Chris Perez who failed to get a save and the Blue Jays tied the game at 2.
The game would go 11 innings and they won it when Mark Reynolds hit one of his monster blasts that sent the ball 457 feet to give the Tribe a one run lead they would be able to hold onto when Joe Smith went in and closed down the Blue Jays for an Indians win.
Reynolds didn’t have the best night at the plate, he went 1 for 5 but got the game winner when it mattered.
