At 42-years-old, The Cleveland Indians picked up the contract of Jason Giambi. Then they placed him on the 15 day disabled list with a lower back strain. The odds were against it when we heard Giambi was coming to spring training, but Terry Francona has been impressed with Giambi since day one of spring training.
Giambi will have a place to play when the Indians activate him on April 9th. He will be a Cleveland Indian. How about that folks, the 42-year-old is going to play baseball with the Indians. Lest hope this lower back strain isn’t something to be concerned about.
The last thing the Indians need this season is a replica of the last D.H. the team had over the past few seasons. Travis Hafner spent more time in the Tribes dug-out than the bench coach did. If Giambi is here to be if some use to the Indians lets hope he produces this season.
It is a great story and I for one hope it is a great sign of things to come this season. As I sit here in Cleveland watching the snow fly, I can’t help to wonder if a guy Giambi’s age is going to be affected by the cold weather.
Something tells me, this opening day is going to be a cold one.
