Derek Lowe Looking for first win since july 4thThe Cleveland Indians start a three games set tonight against the Kansas City royals. The Indians will be sending right-handed pitcher Derek Lowe to the mound. The Cleveland Indians just coming from three game sweep against the Minnesota Twins are looking to turn their season around and start winning the baseball games once again in Kansas City. Derek Lowe hasn’t won a game since the 4th of July against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Cleveland Indians are in third place five games back in the AL central behind the Chicago White Sox, Chicago has just dropped two games in a row. Cleveland is 3 1/2 games behind the Detroit Tigers in third place, after the Tigers just lost their last game. As the trade deadline closes in on the Indians, it doesn’t seem like the team is going to make any moves to bring in any help. Playing the Kansas City Royals the Cleveland Indians certainly could take advantage of this team, taking this series.

If the Indians can get a sweep while they’re in Kansas City and the Tigers’ and  White Sox continue losing, who knows the Tribe could be right back in the thick of things. (Wishful thinking on my part).

Indian second baseman Jason Kipnis took the night off in the third game in the Minnesota series to clear his head as Tribe skipper Manny Acta put it. Indians fans have to hope Kipnis comes back with a spark in his bat which ignites the fuse, that gets the Indians offense going in the right direction.

Derek Lowe has to pitch like he was pitching in the first half of the season, if Lowe can keep the Indians in the game, and the Indians offense can come alive tonight the Tribe has a good chance of making a run for the AL central. The Indians are presently two games under .500 at 50 and 52. The Cleveland Indians have 60 games left in the regular season and they have to start making a move now if they’re thinking of post season play.

If the Cleveland Indians play in Kansas City like we saw them play in Minnesota, I’m afraid to say this season will be over. Let’s hope the Tribe’s manager Manny Acta sat his guys down and gave them a stern talking to, something has to get this Indians offense going. The Indians hitters need to be aggressive from the first pitch on tonight, with the team five games back at this point in the season, they have nothing to lose?

These guys get to play baseball for a living, it’s time for them to dig down deep and find the heart it takes to go out there and compete daily to win games. We all know what this Indians team is capable of producing when all cylinders are firing properly. It’s time for the players themselves to go out on that field and display they have what it takes to be professional baseball players. You can’t always blame the pitching and hitting coaches, the players themselves have to take responsibility.

The Cleveland Indians won a lot of baseball games in the first half of the season, it’s time to start doing it again.  The fans in Cleveland deserve at least that much.
