The Cleveland Cavaliers tried to deal away their first pick in the 2013 NBA draft to Portland for Lamarucs Aldridge. The deal was rejected and Cleveland is still searching for the best deal to help the Cavs get more wins this season.
Cleveland was said to be offering their 1st and 19th pick in the draft to acquire Aldridge. It is understandable why the Cavs wanted to trade away the 1st pick to get Aldridge, he’s a proven entity after a third consecutive 20-point season to go along with a career-high 9.1 rebounds.
It is even more understandable why the Blazers wouldn’t go a long with the deal. Cleveland would have gotten a proven player who could immediately make an impact in Cleveland. The Cavs are going to be a more defensively orientated team this season.
Having a big man like Aldridge in the mix could help them reach that goal quickly. The Cavs need to find a guy who is both big and can intimidate players in the lane. The Cavs are trying to get back to a play off caliber team.
Something tells me the Cavs aren’t done trying to deal the 1st pick yet. They really need a guy who can fill the void and help this young Cavaliers team get better quickly. With just a day left before draft day, I expect the Cleveland Cavaliers to make some aggressive moves.
