The Cleveland Browns are adding to their collection of running-backs. They resigned Brandon Jackson and added Miguel Maysonet by claiming him off the waiver wires after his release from the Eagles. The team has said they plan on running the shoes off of Trent Richardson in the 2013 season.
The Browns resigned Brandon Jackson to a one year deal. Jackson wasn’t used much during the 2012 season and it was difficult to figure out why. He showed a lot of promise in the preseason and certainly could have been a weapon coming out of the back-field as a receiver.
With the Browns claiming Maysonet off the wire, you have to wonder what the team is thinking. The Browns really need a guy who can open holes up for Richardson to run through. The team needs a smash mouth full-back that can push people out of Richardson’s way.
The team lacks that type of player. They have some great talent in the back-field, but none of these running-backs can be labeled a full-back. They are fast but they are small too. The team needs a large man at the full back position that can push the defense backwards.
The offensive line did a great job in 2012 protecting the quarterback, but they had problems opening holes for the running game. This season they have to improve in run blocking and the addition of a good full-back could be helpful to them.
It will be interesting to see how much the Browns run the ball this season. The team’s offensive coordinator has a history of making top-notch running-backs. That trend should continue with Trent Richardson, if he can get some key blocks…..
