The City of Cleveland is a buzz, with their newly found Weeden love. Now that the team has named Brandon Weeden as the team’s starting quarterback, they have to turn their focus to protecting him when they take on the Indianapolis Colts this Saturday.
The Colts will be a better test to show us how good this 2013 Browns team is. Indianapolis was a play-off team in 2012 and in their last preseason game they sacked the quarterback 6 times. The Browns would be smart to limit the playing time of Weeden if they want to keep him healthy to start the regular season.
Weeden missed the final game of the 2012 season with a shoulder injury he suffered in week 15 of the 2012 season. The Colts are going to bring a lot of pressure in-game 3 of the preseason. The Browns offensive line has done a great job protecting their quarterback this season.
With the injuries the Browns suffered against the Lions, we have to wonder if the o-line will be able to give Weeden the same protection they provided him with thus far. It is going to be interesting to see how Weeden does now that he is the named starter.
I think we are seeing a much more mature Weeden this season. Even when he addresses the media he seems to be different. He still is not that mobile back there and he could be susceptible to the rush.
The Colts are going to bring it and Weeden is going to have to avoid it if he is going to be successful in Indianapolis this weekend. The Browns brain trust is going to have to make sure they can protect their starting quarterback.
Otherwise they need to sit him….
