When the Cleveland Browns travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers, the defense will be faced with the task of trying to stop Aaron Rodgers, who is a top ten rated quarterback this season. Rodgers has the ability to throw a game changing pass at any time during the game.
The Browns defense has the secondary in place this season to break up those pass plays. But the Browns defense is also failing to stop teams from converting on 3rd down and if they can’t stop Rodgers on third down, it going to be over for Cleveland.
One of the problems the Cleveland defense has had all season, is the ability to stop the short over the middle pass.
The Cleveland line backers aren’t very good in pass coverage. They don’t have a line backer that can play in space and close in on a receiver when needed. D’Qwell Jackson used to be able to drop back in coverage, but even he seems to be having some trouble this season.
Horton has his guys bringing pressure to the quarterback and they stop the run, but is going to be those intermediate passes over the middle that come back to haunt this team this season.
Cleveland did a great job of going out and getting the guys to put pressure on the passer, but the Browns did nothing to build up a line-backer group that could drop back in pass coverage.
If they can’t stop those intermediate passes on third down, they aren’t going to stop team’s from converting 3rd downs. The Packers and Aaron Rodgers will pick the Cleveland defense apart. This won’t help the Cleveland Browns win if that happens.
