Justin Masterson vs Justin Verlander as the Cleveland Indians went out looking for the sweep over the Detroit Tigers today after winning the two previous games. The Indians would jump out to an early lead when Shin-Soo Choo blasted a Verlander pitch for a 444 foot ride into the upper deck in right field for his third home run of the year.
Justin Masterson was able to hold the Tigers without any runs through the first two innings. The the Tigers would get on the score-board when Miguel Cabrera grounded out to the short-stop which drove in Berry. That would be the only run Indians pitching would give up to the over-paid Detroit Tigers line-up. The Indians would find another run in the fourth inning, Jose Lopez who has been filling in for Jack Hannahan at third base did what he has been doing since taking over for Hannahan at thirds base. Lopez gets hits, this kid produces offense. He has been a big surprise for the Indians and when Hannahan returns the Tribe is going to be hard pressed to make a decision on what to do with Lopez.
Lopez singled to right center and he would get another RBI driving in Michael Brantley. The Indians would take a 2-1 lead over the Tigers and that would be enough to complete the sweep today. The Indians again would get a solid performance from Vinnie Pestano and their closer Chris Perez. But it was on this day, in this game, where Justin Masterson would out-perform the Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander. Today the Cleveland Indians clearly had the better Justin…..
