The Cleveland Indians pitchers and catchers will be reporting to spring training and Ubaldo Jimenez is still Unsigned. Should the Indians reach out to Jimenez? The answer is yes. He made a mistake and didn’t sign on the dotted line, probably on the advice of his agent who thought Jimenez would be in for a bigger pay-day after his performance last season.

Jimenez was getting back into the form that the Indians thought they were getting when they traded for him. He won 13 games for the Indians last season and this was due to the work him and Mickey Callaway put in finding Jimenez’s mechanics.

Callaway was looking forward to working with Jimenez again this season and thought that he would be even better. Jimenez hasn’t been able to strike gold like so many other pitchers did in the off-season and he now knows he probably got some bad advice from his agent.

The Indians pitching staff took some major blows in the off-season and the Tribe could use a guy that can deliver wins. Why the Indians don’t reach out to Jimenez is anyone’s guess. They need to get over any hurt feelings and resign him at least to a one year deal.

There may be a lot of question marks surrounding Ubaldo, but someone will sign him before they just let a guy who can throw like him sit out the 2014 major league season. The Tribe would be a better team with Jimenez on their roster.

Of course they should make a very reasonable effort to sign him! And they should give him some compensation, even if they had some bad years with him. Obviously, he also has to give a lot more than he had planned to. Frankly, I’d like to see more than a year, but beggars can’t be choosers. Just sign him for a year at least, and any more is a bonus!
