Well, the Cleveland Browns just completed their first three day mini camp and already Browns coach Pat Shurmur wants to name his starting quarter-back. What’s the Hurry Pat? Is Shurmur hearing some pressure from up-stairs? The Browns said there was going to be a competition between Colt McCoy and Brandon Weeden. IS this three day mini camp what they had in mind? We all know Weeden has a strong arm and we all know he won some games in College. What about the fact this guy has never played in a NFL game? Is Weeden all set to take over at the Starting quarter-back without even facing one NFL pass rush in a pre-season game?
Maybe the fact Shurmur wants to name a starter before camp starts give him the feeling of the Browns being his team. Lets face it Shurmur didn’t do Colt McCoy any favors last season as he came into Cleveland took over the Browns in a locked out season that only gave the team 2 weeks to change the offense before pre-season started. After all this is Pat Shurmur’s team and guys like Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert keep telling us what a great man Shurmur is.
So him wanting to name a starter after three days of mini camp and a couple of days of Browns rookie practices, shows that Shurmur knows best. Hey lets just see what happens. Lets change quarterbacks before the camp starts and lets see how this 28 year old rookie performs under game day pressure. Why not. It only makes since for a team that has had 17 different quarterbacks since 1999.
