Sammy Prahalis took the Lady Buckeyes’ loss to Minnesota on January 29th to heart. The senior guard came out firing on all four cylinders last night and scored a career-high 34 points as Ohio State defeated Wisconsin 72-58. She was 12 of 18 from the field, 4 of 5 from 3 point land, made all six of her free throws, had five assists, two rebounds, and four steals. Junior guard Tayler Hill added 18 points for the Buckeyes.
After a big half from Prahalis, the Buckeyes took a 35-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. Then, in the second half, Wisconsin went on a 7-0 run to cut a 13 point Buckeye lead to just 3 at 49-46 with about 12 minutes to go in the game. At that point, Ohio State head coach Jim Foster called time out to talk to his team. ”We just were in an area defensively where we weren’t playing at the level we need to play at. I just reiterated that. We got much more aggressive at that end of the floor,” Foster said. The Buckeyes then came out of the time out to go on a 12-0 run to push the lead to 65-49. They never looked back after that.
The win improved Ohio State’s record to 21-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Their next opponent is Illinois. They will take on the Illini on Thursday night in Champaign at 8 pm (EST).
