Masterson Pitches great todayJustin Masterson looked as though he could pitch a no-hitter today as the Cleveland Indians set out to take the series for the Baltimore Orioles. Masterson gave the Indians 7 great innings of pitching, he only gave up one earned run and it wasn’t until the fifth inning when Jones reached on an error by the Indians short stop Jason Donald. Masterson held the Orioles hit-less through four. The Indians Ace looks like he is back. In his last four games he moves to 3-1. Masterson needed an outing like the one he had today.

The Indians got on the board first with a home run by Shelley Duncan who is fighting to stay in a Indians uniform the way he has hit lately. Then believe it or not a guy comes to the plate and hits a home run to end his 0-12 streak. That’s right folks, Aaron Cunningham hit a home run to put the Tribe up 2-0 on a day when the Indians pitcher Justin Masterson wasn’t going to give up anything. To have a 2-0 lead that early in the game had to give Masterson a boost of confidence.

The Indians move back to 2 games above .500 at 40-38 and stay 2 games behind the White Sox (for the time being)  in second place in the A.L. Central. The Indians will return home to Progressive field to face the Angels and the Rays before the All-Star break. The Indians could very well end up back in first place before the break if the Sox keep losing and the Tribe keeps winning.

One more item of interest, Jim Thome went 0 for 4 in his debut in an Orioles uniform.
