The Cleveland Indians jumped into the lead early in the second game against the Baltimore Orioles. It looked like the Tribe could cruise to a win and why not, they had their ace Justin Masterson on the mound.
The Tribe was up 3-1 after 6 inning before the wheels fell off. The Orioles scored 5 runs in the 7th and Masterson was tagged for 6 earned runs as the Indians starter started to struggle. Baltimore took the lead and the Indians couldn’t do anything to stop them.
Masterson would give up 6 hits and 6 earned runs while striking out 7 and walking only one. It was not going to be his night as he falls to 9-6 on the season. Masterson is starting to show signs of struggling and the Tribe needs him to snap out of it soon.
Cleveland fell to 39-37 on the season and they remain 3-1/2 games back in the A.L. Central. They have 2 games to play and could still take the series if they could beat Baltimore. The Indians offense scored 3 runs last night, one was off a Jason Kipnis 2 run blast.
Kipnis is managing to have a good month of June after struggling earlier in the season. It is good to see Kipnis swinging the hot bat, lets hope he keeps it up, the Indians need his production at the plate.
