The world of welterweight boxing sure got some surprises this month. first it was Shawn “Showtime” Porter who completely dominated the bout for the IBF Welterweight Championship with a win over Devon Alexander and then it was Marcos Maidana who manhandled Adrian Broner for the first 10 rounds of the fight anyway, to win the World Boxing Association welterweight belt.
The next fight that should take place is a bout between Maidana and Porter to unify the 2 belts. That’s if Maidana can come out of the cheating allegations cleanly. The Broner camp is pointing the finger at Maidana’s strength coach.
There are trying to say conditioning coach Alex Ariza was caught on video feeding Maidana some kind of pill. The Maidana camp is contending, it wasn’t a pill at all. They said it was a white dental swab, the same kind dentist use to absorb liquid in people’s mouths while they are having dental work done.
The Maidana camp said they used the white swab to absorb a little blood out of the mouth of Maidana between rounds.
If the investigation clears Maidana of any wrong doing he should use the opportunity to prove his win over Broner wasn’t a fluke one time thing. Broner contests, he didn’t take Maidana seriously and that is why he lost the fight.
Maidana can expound on his newly found fame by taking a match against Shawn Porter to prove he is a real fighter and he can stand toe to toe with the best in the welterweight class. Plus, he could use the opportunity to unify the IBF & The WBA welterweight belts.
I know Porter would be willing to take on a fight like this. Showtime is always ready to perform. Hence the name “Showtime”. It has been a long time since two newly crown champions had a chance to put on a show like this fight would be.
If Maidana is the fighter he thinks he is, he wouldn’t hesitate to take on Porter for a chance to unify the 2 belts. This fight would surely draw in attendance. The battle of 2 champions and one with the opportunity to walk away with 2 world championship belts.
Why the hell not? Put your money where your mouth is Marcos Maidana, take a fight with Shawn “Showtime” Porter and lets see who walks out of the ring with both belts…..
