The Cleveland Indians needed a win over the Royals last night to take the series and move into positive ground in the A.L. Central. They did that last night, they are now 1 game over .500 and Justin Masterson got his 9th win on the season.
The guy who continues to impress the baseball world hit 2 home runs in the game last night. Indians left fielder Michael Brantley hit 2 solo home runs to give the Indians offense the spark they needed to put some runs on the score board.
The Indians were losing the game 2-0 in the 5th inning when Michael Brantley came to the plate and hit his first solo home run to put the Indians on the score board and pull the team within one run of the Royals.
The flood gates opened after that and the Indians were able to put 3 more runs on the board in the 6th. Then Brantley decided to take another swing at the fence in the 8th inning and he hit his second home run of the night, giving the Indians a 6-3 lead over the Royals and the Tribe took the game and the series from Kansas City.
Brantley is one of the most valuable players in Major League Baseball. I for one am glad the Cleveland Indians have this guy and hope when it is time, they can find a way to get Brantley a long-term deal that would keep him in Cleveland for many years.
Brantley is worth his weight in gold. Lets hope the Indians front office sees it that way too.
