Just a short time ago, a Federal Judge ruled in favor of the NFL players issuing an injunction ordering the leagues owners to lift the lockout. However the leagues senior vice president of public relations said the league is asking for a stay of the judgement pending an appeal. What a strange turn of events. Now the real fight begins. The league and the owners don’t like the judges ruling and I am sure it surprised many.
The NFL said an appeal would be filed stating that federal law prohibits injunctions in labor disputes. U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson said today the union disbanding meant the federal labor law no longer applied in the case. This is all part of the suit filled by Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and seven other players. Tell me these guys didn’t do there homework. With the kind of money these guys make I am sure they had some of the best legal minds in American advising them.
These guys also want a trial to determine if the lockout violates federal antitrust laws. Wow, some of these players may become lawyers when their NFL career ends, who knows? Ya know, the league brings in 9 billion dollars annually and the owners take one billion off the top and the players get around 60 percent of the rest. Not a bad payday is it. All these guys may have been hit in the head to many times. None of the top name player in this story are hurting for cash.
The NFL players are still upset by the owners not wanting to open up their books and show the players rising cost of building new stadiums and promoting the league and other expenses the owners claim, cost them money. Are these guys for real? Of course this cost money these billion dollar stadiums just don’t grow out of the ground.
Who can blame these players? I mean after all While star players earn millions of dollars each year, the median NFL salary is $790,000 and the average career lasts about four years. Ya know it is kind of hard to get by on an average of nearly 800,000 dollars. I mean come on people when was the last time you tried to get buy on just 800 thousand dollars. The players may have a point here…..
