Jeanmar Gomez took the loss yesterday as the Cleveland Indians continued their decent from the top of the American League Central division standings. The Indians now a game and a half back are going through a string of injuries and the team is struggling in games they should have won. Yesterday the Tribe got off to a quick start then they were not able to hold a three runs lead as the Royals took the game 6-3 and won the series against the Indians.
The Cleveland Indians have seen this before, last season the Tribe was well ahead in the standing when the injuries started to rip through the Indians roster and the Tribe fell from the top of the standings. Sure there is a lot of baseball left, the Indians could mount a come back you say. Well, you’re right it could happen. The Indians need to get their guys healthy and the Tribe needs to get their starting pitchers to find their games once again.
Freak injuries took control of the Indians key players over the last week and it hasn’t helped the Indians find wins. Jack Hannahan just returned from an absence when he suffered a calf injury that took him out of the line-up. Carlos Santana has been missing time due to a concussion. Asdrubal Cabrera missed time with a hamstring and Travis Hafner is out with a knee injury.
Last Season it was the outfield that was nearly left UN-attended, this season the Indians are lucky to have someone behind home plate, not only is Santana injured Lou Marson has been out after taking a blow to the face causing him to get stitches inside of his mouth. The Indians may have to suit up their bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. if this keeps up.
It is not like the Indians didn’t have chances to win yesterday, The Tribe left the base loaded when Kotchman stuck out. The Indians have got to find something and they better find it fast. Otherwise they will be falling in the division fast. The Indians have an off day today, hopefully this will give the wounded a little time to heal.
