The Cleveland Indians sent Josh Tomlin to the mound, to try to avoid being swept by the Detroit Tigers. It didn’t work, Tomlin clearly didn’t bring his stuff to the ball park yesterday. The Tigers pounded on Tomlin, the Indians pitcher looked shell-shocked out on the mound.
He gave up 8 hits, and 8 runs in the 4 innings he pitched. Most of the damage came all at once. The Tigers had a 7 run 5th inning and that’s win they put the nail in the Indians coffin. The Indians lost to Detroit 10-4. It was ugly and they were swept, by a team they swept just weeks ago.
The Indians front office has to make a move to bring in a proven hitter, one who can provide some consistency to the team’s offense. The Indians lack a consistent offense. They either all hit or they all offer very little.
The team needs a guy who can provide power at the plate in each at bat. That’s the number one problem with the team. Then there is the starting pitching. Cleveland doesn’t have the guy I would consider to be the dependable ace.
Sure the team has some good pitchers, but there isn’t the one guy who other teams fear. Until the front office can provide a couple of players that can bring it to the ball park night after night, game after game, the Indians are going to be an inconsistent team.
With the 3 losses to Detroit, the Indians have fallen into 3rd place, 5 games behind the Tigers and 2-1/2 games behind the Royals. There is plenty of baseball left, but the team needs to make a couple of moves. If they don’t, the Indians won’t go very far this season.
