The Cleveland Indians have had a terrible time trying to beat the Detroit Tigers since they opened their 4 game series at Progressive Field in Cleveland,Ohio. Today there was one Indian who wasn’t going to take another loss at the hands of the Motor City Kitties.
Michael Brantley stepped up and showed the world why he has become the Cleveland Indians Most Reliable Player. (MRP). Brantley had a 2 home run, 5 RBI day. He helped his team the Indians put an end to a 5 game losing streak. Brantley is the guy who comes to every game and contributes whether he is in the field or at the plate.
There has been a lot of talk about Jason Kipnis and the month of June he had, people aren’t normally talking about Michael Brantley and God knows Brantley doesn’t have much to say either. The guy is one of the most consistent players in MLB and the Cleveland Indians are lucky to have him.
The guy always shows up ready to play and he has been the Tribes MRP for a couple of season’s now. Brantley is one of those guys that isn’t very flashy, but when he lights it up like he did in today’s game no one in baseball is better.
The Indians got a good start from Corey Kluber today who matched his career high with 10 strikeouts and then they put in Joe Smith who struggled trying to work his way out of the 7th inning. Pestano came in for the 8th and he made a fatal mistake leaving a pitch out over the plates which quickly erased the 3 run lead the Indians had. The Tribe and the Tigers were tied at 6.
That is when Brantley turned up the heat and hit his second home run that regained the lead for the Indians.
Cleveland won the game 9-6 and it was because of the work Micheal Brantley did today.
