The Cleveland Indians lost to the Texas Rangers last night after having a chance to win a come from behind game in the ninth. The Indians fell behind in the second inning on a infield hit and trailed 1-0. The Indians had Derek Lowe on the mound who did a great job holding the high powered Texas offense to only two runs through 6 innings giving his Indians offense a chance to take the second game in a row over the Rangers.
The Indians offense was held in check most of the night by Rangers pitcher Derek Holland. The Indians didn’t break through with any runs until the eighth inning when the Tribe scored two runs tying the game at two and giving the Indians a chance to put it away for the second night in a row over the Texas Rangers.
Asdrubal Cabrera got things going for the Indians in the 8th with a double to right which scored Micheal Brantley and move Jason Kipnis to third. Then Kipnis would cross the plate on a wild pitch. The Indians sent Vinny Pestano in for the ninth and Pestano got the job done once again. Pestano has been pitching lights out for the Indians over the past three weeks.
The Indians would come to the plate in the ninth with a chance to put this game away. Choo would get a single to right field putting the wining run on the bases. Manny Acta pulled Shelley Duncan and sent in Johnny Damon to pinch hit, after all this was one of the situations the Indians went out and got Damon. Damon would pop out in the infield and then Hafner came to the plate with the chance to bring a win to the Indians. Hafner would ground out into a double play and the Indians would go into extra innings once again.
Tribe Skipper Manny Acta had Joe Smith on the mound for 2 innings last night. Acta gave a free pass to Moreland and was letting Smith pitch to Adrian Beltre who came in to pinch hit and he hit a three run home run to give the Rangers a 5-2 lead over the Indians in the 11th inning. The Indians had one more at bat in which they could get it done and the Rangers would even the series at one with a 5-2 win over the Indians.
