The Cleveland Indians are very concerned about the shoulder strain suffered by their closer Chris Perez and rightfully so. Perez is the one guy the Indians depend on to come in and close the game, of course that is after the best set-up man in the major leagues Vinnie Pestano sets the table for him. Just a day ago I had the pleasure of listening to Perez interviewed on the big one in Cleveland from spring training in Arizona. It was about 8:00A.M. Est. and Perez was saying how great it was to come into spring training feeling healthy.
Not even 24 hours later the big-man is suffering a shoulder strain and will have to be shut down for a couple of weeks. With opening day just a little over a month away, Tribe fans will be wondering if Perez will be able to make an opening day appearance when the Cleveland Indians take on the New York Yankees in the season opener.
Both Perez and Terry Francona were excited to work together to get the season under way. With this injury to Perez, it brings back the thought of the CURSE we have heard about for so many years. Of course the real fans of Cleveland Sports teams think the city is cursed but many fans choose to ignore the curse. Lets hope for the sake of the Indians the Curse didn’t pick out closer Perez to attach itself too this season. We need him to be healthy…..
