The Cleveland Indians seem to be going through a difficult period as Attrition starts to take its toll on the Tribes starting players. Hafner who didn’t make the trip to the windy city is out with a sore knee, the MRI showed some irritation to his meniscus, Hafner was injected with an anti-inflammatory drug and expected to re-join the team early next week.
Carlos Santana left the game against the White Sox last night after taking a foul ball off his face mask late in the game and is listed as day to day. I would think Carlos could be ready today to get back into action even if Acta just uses him as the Indians D.H..
Short Stop Asdrubal Cabrera left the game with a sore left hamstring and also is listed as day to day. The Indians certainly don’t need all these nagging injuries at this point in the season, the Tribe had host of injuries last season that many think costs the team a shot at fall play. The good news is the Indians third baseman Jack Hannahan who has been missing from the Indians line-up with lower back problems could return to the starting line-up as early as today.
The Indians would be left with an interesting situation if Hannahan returns and Cabrera sits, they could give Lopez who Acta wants to keep in the line-up a shot at short. The Indians have got to battle through these injuries and show they can sustain a full season of base-ball. The Indians will be sending their real surprise ace Derek Lowe to the mound today to face the White Sox Jake Peavy. This could be a very good match up if both guys have their stuff today.
