When the Cleveland Indians brought Danny Salazar up from Triple A Columbus, the Indians knew they has something special. Now that he has been up for a while and pitching in the regular rotation, he continues to prove he is the real deal.
Danny Salazar got the start yesterday in Chicago. He only pitched for 3-2/3′s inning and he had 9 stick-outs. Did you hear that? 9 Strike-outs in just over 3 innings. Salazar is the next great American league pitcher.
The kid is on a pitch count and the Indians are sticking to it. They only let him throw so many pitches in every game he starts and he still struck out 9 batters in just over 3 innings of work. Wait until this kid works his way up to complete games.
The Indians have had some great pitching in the second half of this season but we haven’t seen a talent this good in Cleveland in quite some time. Now the trick will be keeping this kid in Cleveland. The Indians need a guy like this in their starting rotation and as we know, the Indians have a history of not wanting to pay talent like this kid.
He helps the team win, he was able to hold the White Sox without a run during the time he was in the game and that is how you make it easier for your team to get a win. The Tribe needs to sign this kid to a long term deal.
He is going to demand the kind of money a Hernandez or a Verlander gets, will the Indians be able to dig down deep into their pockets and find a way to secure the talents of a Danny Salazar long term?
They have to. They need his talent. Mortgage the farm and get this kid and while we are talking long term, find a way to sign Michael Brantley to a long term deal too. By the way the Indians beat the White Sox in game 2 and now sit, just 1-1/2 game back in the wild card race.
