The Cleveland Indians took on the New York Yankees last night. The Tribe sent Justin Masterson to the mound for the start. Why? That’s anyone’s question at this point. We all know Masterson and the Indians, couldn’t come to terms before the start of the season.
Now, we are left wondering if not giving him a new contract, has screwed up his head. Masterson only made it to the second inning. His past few performances have been terrible. Manager Terry Francona, has tried working with him, he even gave him a couple of more days off to rest his sore knee.
In the 2 innings Masterson worked, the Indians fell behind 3-0. It could have been far worse if it wasn’t for the heads up double play, made by Carlos Santana to save a run and help get Justin out of the trouble he created for himself.
To make matters worse, you could see in his reaction in the dug-out, he lost interest in the game. He headed into the club house, and left the 23 other guys, standing out there without his inspiration.
If Masterson wants out of Cleveland, it could be coming sooner than he thinks. If the Indians can trade him before the trade deadline, they should. They could call Salazar back up and have him take Masterson’s place in the starting rotation.
What ever Masterson’s problem is, he better find a way to fix it. Otherwise, he is useless to the Cleveland Indians. To continue to start him, doesn’t seem to be the solution to his problem. He just doesn’t seem interested in the Cleveland Indians anymore.
Lets move on already…..Trade him and get someone who wants to be there.
