With the sale of the Browns just waiting on the official ownership vote, one has to wonder if Mike Holmgren Browns president has already been stripped of his power. All preseason Holmgren hasn’t had much to say. Many were thinking the Browns former backup quarterback Seneca Wallace would stay a Cleveland Brown because of his close ties with Holmgren who brought Wallace with him from Seattle. As we have seen, Holmgren just sat back at watched as Wallace packed his belongs and let the teams facility.
That leaves us wondering just how long we can expect Holmgren himself to stay in Cleveland. Jimmy Haslam hasn’t taken the helm of team owner yet, Haslam has however been at both of the Browns preseason home games and he is getting a first hand look at how the Cleveland Browns do things. Ever since word of the Browns sale became public Mike Holmgren has been very quiet. Some think Haslam would leave the current Browns leadership in place for the 2012 season. No official word has come out yet. At this point with the season starting in a week, it is unusual not to hear anything from Mike Holmgren.
Things in Browns country could change very quickly once the owners vote and Haslam takes over. From where I am sitting it looks like these changes will be for the better. The fans are hoping Haslam will finally close the book on the Cleveland Browns not being able to compete. As far as Mike Holmgren goes, I guess the only thing we are waiting for is the last word. He doesn’t seem to be doing much at this time anyway….
