For the first time since returning to the National Football League, The Cleveland Browns took some players in the first round of the draft, the team clearly needed. Picking Myles Garrett with the first pick in the 2017 NFL draft, demonstrates the Browns understand they need to bolster their defense to win in the NFL.
The Browns lost 15 games in 2016. I many of those losses the Browns were leading in the game. The team's defense had no play-makers, and the Browns couldn't stop their opponents in the second half of the game.
Picking Garrett, shows me that someone on the Browns understand they have to stop the run, and bring pressure to the quarterback. Garrett who played at Texas A & M, went into his college football career, as the second highest ranked player in the nation.
While at A & M he showed he was a dominant force on the defensive line. In his freshman year, he broke the sack record with 5-1/2 sacks in only six games. He also had 53 total tackles and 14 of those were for a loss, along with 10 quarterback hurries.
This guy can be a difference-maker the Browns much-needed on the defensive line. We just have to hope he can adapt to the speed of the NFL, and he can stay healthy as well.
Jabrill Peppers is a good pick on paper. He is one of the new bread at safety. He isn't big enough to play line-backer full-time, but he is a big body at safety. If there is a downfall in drafting Peppers, it may be his ability to give solid coverage.
But he can line up in the back-field, or on the line to help the Browns bring pressure to the quarterback, He is quick, and he is a decent punt return guy as well.
You just never know how guys are going to react to playing in the NFL. Any draft pick is a gamble, when it comes to the transition of playing NFL football, after college. It is a much different game, and any team has to do their home work, when it comes to using 1st round picks.
I am convinced the Cleveland Browns took the very best player with the number one pick in the 2017 NFL draft. It's left to be seen if their 25th pick will pan out. Regardless of what happens, at least the Browns know they needed help on the defensive side of the ball, and they used a couple of first round pick to hopefully improve the team's defense.

Great read the Brown’s are finally getting it right. It all starts drafting the right guys.
I sure hope so Kenyon.
HAD to take Garrett. I wanted Hooker at 12 but this trade down then back up to get 3 1st rounders just may work out. Hope they figure how to use Peppers to make him effective. He’s talented but a bit of a tweener. I’d give ’em a high grade on the 1st round.
G, I think Williams will be a big help to Peppers. He should be able to make him a pro-bowl safety, heck he’s done it with less talented players……I just hope both these pick pan out, the Browns can’t aford another draft bust, and we all know the speed of the NFL game is much quicker than the college level…..

Hope so. Whatever happens, Do NOT blow up front office & coaches again. Keep this group a few years & give ’em a chance. Gotta like 3 1st Round picks in 1 year. (Keep Jimmy H out of the decision making though. Just sign the checks, please)
I fully agree….Especially on keeping Haslam out
