Mark Shapiro The Indians team president and Chris Antonetti may have just pulled off one of the greatest job protection acts of all time. They reached out and hired Terry Francona to be the Cleveland Indians 42nd manager and they pulled it of. Francona came out in his post hiring press conference and said there were two big reasons he took the Indians manager job, Shapiro and Antonetti. The news of the Francona hire has fans optimistic about the Indians future, after all the guy has taken teams he managed to the World Series, it should be easy to take the Indians there right?

The Indians front office gave Francona an out in his 4 year deal. If Shapiro or Antonetti were fired then Francona could walk away from the Cleveland Indians. Can you believe it? The front office boys pulled off a fast one that gives them both 4 more years of doing very little to produce a winning team. Hey who can blame these  guys? The truth of the matter is many people expected Chris Antonetti to get fired for the Indians dismal 2012 season. SOme say he should have been fired at the same time the team cut its ties with former manager Manny Acta.

Now with the Francona deal, Antonetti is protected by the fact that if he is fired then Francona could leave. We have a live hostage situation down on the corner of east 9th and Carnegie. The fact that the Indians owner would fall for a deal like this is insane. His hands are tied, he is a former lawyer and it is unbelievable he would let a deal like this be put together.  It is also unbelievable the Indians team President would put a deal like this together.

So there you have it folks, the powers to be in the Cleveland Indians front office didn't go out and get Francona just to manage the Indians, they got him to have job protection too....
