In his first game as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tyronn Lue could do nothing but watch his Cavs fall to the Chicago Bulls 96-83. After the game Lue blamed his players conditioning for the loss.
He went on to say, his players, including LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving aren't in good enough shape to play the kind of up-tempo basketball, Lue wants them to play.
Cleveland came out early and used themselves up according to Lue. They don't have enough conditioning to play the entire 48 minutes up-tempo. LeBron James completely agreed with Lue's comments.
He too says the team is going to have to take on a new conditioning program, during their shoot-around's and during team practices to get their heart rates up. Kyrie Irving who missed a bunch of time, has only been back for about 16 games, said his chest felt like it was about to cave in during last nights game.
Before Lue was named head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team was 30-11 on the season. He is now 0-1 as their head coach. If he can get his players in better shape, and his Cavaliers can out run their opponents, it will be interesting to see how they finish this season.
Imagine if the Cavaliers, could have more fast breaks and get down the court before the other teams defense could get set. Cleveland would blow away their opponents. The Cavs players are going to have their work cut out for them in the up-coming days.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes Lue to whip his players into the shape he wants.
