The Cleveland Cavaliers picked up where they left off last season with one exception, Kyrie Irving the number one overall pick in the NBA draft is a Cleveland Cavalier. Kyrie got his first start as a Cleveland Cavalier, the problem was Irving can’t hit consistently from the floor. The Cleveland Cavaliers couldn’t defend the outside shot either. The Cavaliers dropped their season opener to the Toronto Raptors 104-96.
The Cavs had problems trying to stop the outside shot and the Cleveland defense could not stop the pick and roll either. Irving was at times looking confused out there in his first NBA start. One thing for certain is Irving is going to have to get his shot making down. The Cavaliers team didn’t rebound very well tonight either. The Cavaliers as a team are going to have to become more physical under the basket there is no doubt about it. The Cavaliers looked better when the second unit was out there.
Cleveland gave up 53% and only hit 41% in field goals. The Cavaliers looked like they didn’t have any quickness to match Toronto. Thompson the other Cavaliers rookie hit 4 of 6 and had some big rebounds too. If Byron Scott was smart and at times we think he is he wold find a way to get Thompson and Irving out on the floor at the same time. The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to have to find a way to play stronger defense. The team has to defend the 3 point shot.
Lets hope we don’t see the same kind of Cavaliers team we saw last season. After one it doesn’t look much different yet….
