The Cleveland Indians signed the 42-year-old Jason Giambi to a contract, can the elder statesman of baseball actually help the Cleveland Indians win? Can he actually make the Indians final roster? Giambi is a big name in baseball. He has spent his last 3 seasons with the Rockies in a part time role. Giambi is a former MLB MVP. He is a legend in the game and I’m sure playing for Francona was a factor in Giambi’s decision to sign with the Indians.

Giambi has a track record of helping younger players develop. He could play a role of helping to mentor the younger guys on the team. It would sure be exciting if Giambi could bring his power hitting abilities to the Indians in a D.H. role. Lets be realistic in our expectations of the 42-year-old Giambi.  Age gets to all athletes, Giambi is no different than any other guy. If his age is a factor can we really expect the guy to play as an every day player?

I guess we are going to see soon enough. Lets hope Giambi can bring some excitement to the Cleveland Indians.
