The Cleveland Browns officially open their training camp today. This means football is just around the corner. In what should be a joyous occasion for team owner Jimmy Haslam III, he will be worrying about what a judge hands to his lawyers today.
For the Browns fans who thought Haslam and his company Pilot Flying J have settled all the law suits, you are wrong. The settlement that went through only covers 8 of the suits that were filed against Haslam and his company.
Today his lawyers will be back in court hoping they can get a judge to consolidate the rest of the suits presently filed into one court. The problem could be additional suits being filed, the day after Haslam’s lawyers got a settlement with 8 of the trucking companies, another suit was filed.
There is no way to tell how many trucking companies haven’t came forward yet. Pilot Flying J is one of the largest suppliers of fuel in the country. On what should be a happy day for Jimmy Haslam III, he has to be a bit worried about what his future holds.
He continues to say he knew nothing as the people that worked for him continue to say he gave his blessing to the scam that was taking place at his company. It is just about a year since Haslam III bought the Cleveland Browns and some are left wondering how long Jimmy will be able to hold on to the team.
Haslam will be at training camp today but don’t expect him to address any of his legal issues with the media. He won’t do that because he doesn’t want to discuss the matter publicly. He continues to say he won’t sell the team and he has to be wondering what criminal charges a federal grand jury will file against him.
With the start of the official NFL football season in Cleveland, there are still a great deal of UN-certainties surrounding the Cleveland Browns. What else is new?
