When the Cleveland Browns pulled off a deal to get Davone Bess from the Miami Dolphins before the 2013 NFL draft, people were excited. Not only is Bess a great third down receiver, he is an experience one as well.
When Bess address the media yesterday he talked about what his role with the Cleveland Browns will be going into the 2013 season. He talked about leading by example and not being the kind of guy who steps on other players toes.
Bess said, he would be glad to help mentor the Browns young receivers if they are willing to listen. Bess said his on field performance will speak louder than his words. He believes in leading by example. Last season Bees caught 61 passes for 778 yards and had one touchdown.
He was the guy the team would go to in 3rd down situations. Bees thinks he is far more than just a 3rd down receiver. He said what he does in game time situations will show the younger players in Cleveland how it is down.
He believes the Browns have a great group of young receivers and with a veteran like him, they will learn quick how it is done in the NFL. The Browns have been missing that veteran leadership at the wide receiver position over the past several seasons.
With Bess filling that void, the Cleveland receivers should improve at a quicker rate. Bess can talk to them about route running and execution that can only help they way they do their job this season. With some veteran leadership at the position I look for the Browns receivers to be much improved this season.
