The Cleveland Browns stood by and watched as Mike "Pops" Adams signs with the Denver Broncos. The Cleveland Fans have seen two players leave Cleveland in the past two days through free agency. Mike Adams is the one who will be missed the most, he was a very productive part of the Cleveland Browns pass defense that finished the season ranked second in the NFL, with that being said the Cleveland fans find it a difficult pill to swallow watching the news report Mike Adams left the Cleveland Browns.
Fans think Browns team President Mike Holmgren and General Manager Tom Heckert are wreaking the team. I'm here to tell the fans just hold on for a minute and think about what you're saying. Holmgren and Heckert do not want to lose football games. These guys want to win. Today as the Browns hosted season ticket holders Holmgren said the time is now.
Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert are committed to building a team in Cleveland that will win football games period. Neither of of these guys enjoy losing any more than the disgruntled fans like watching the team lose. Sure Mike Adams was a good player, sure the Browns could have used his talents in the secondary.
The fact of the matter is Mike Adams wasn't called Pops for nothing, Adams is going to be 31 years old on March 24th. The Browns could have used Adams that is for sure. Holmgren and Heckert are trying to build a team that will be a force in the NFL for years to come. Heckert addressed this in his last news conference a week ago, Heckert said you have to be careful in free agency who you get. Teams don't just let their best players walk out into the free agent market. It is sorta like buying a used car, you never really know what you have until you drive it for a while.
To the Fans of the Cleveland Browns, you were all happy the day Mike Holmgren took the job as the Cleveland Browns president, give him a chance. As far as Tom Heckert goes, have a look at some of the players he has added to the Browns defense, really think about this. The Browns defense raked number two against the pass in the entire NFL last season, not to bad.
Heckert is the guy who assembled this defense, let him have some time to build us a complete football team. I think the fans will be happy. As far as losing a guy like Mike Pops Adams, I agree it is hard to see him go. It was also difficult to see Dixon and Minnifield go too.
Oh yeah, the head coach, the fans don't really care for this guy either. How many fans remember the head coach they really wanted out of Cleveland that no one liked at all. I think his name was Bill Belichick, I'll bet those same fans wished he would have stayed in Cleveland now. Hines sight is always 20-20. Please give these guys time to build a team. Don't force the two guys who take it as personal as the fans out of Cleveland.
Give Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert a chance. The last thing the Browns need is constant change at the top right now....
