Browns all pro offensive line man Joe Thomas recently told the media, he wasn’t worried about the state of the Browns run game. He said the NFL is more of a quarterback driven league and you win super bowl by the play of your quarterback and the passing game.

Thomas has a point, the NFL has become more of a passing league. The days of the smash mouth running game are fading away. The Browns lack of a running game could be a reason Thomas feels that way.

The team is talking about getting Chris Ogbonnya more involved in the running game. The team travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals and one of the best ways to stop the Bengals offense with their high-powered receivers is to keep them off the field.

Thomas may be making the statement about the quarterback winning the games now, but a few weeks ago he wasn’t so sure. The team has a couple of weeks to work on the running game and with the return of Jason Pinkston, it should also be a help to get the running game going.

Running the football may not be necessary to win in today’s NFL, but it is a great way to keep those defenses honest and a great way to eat time off the game clock.

Using the running game also give the team’s defense a chance to rest as well. Thomas may be making excuses because the team doesn’t have a very good running game, but something tells me we are going to see an improved running game when the team takes on the Bengals in a couple of weeks.
