The greatest running back that ever graced the Cleveland Browns has come out and offered his opinion on the Trent Richardson trade and how former team president Mike Holmgren took advantage of the team.
Jim Brown, Hall Of Fame running back called the Richardson trade ingenious. He appeared on Showtime and said, Richardson could never do the job the Browns needed him to do. He said the former first round pick could never carry the load the Browns needed him to carry.
He called the trade brilliant. Brown also said that former team president Mike Holmgren took advantage of the former Browns owner Randy Lerner as a way to get his buddies paid. This was obvious when he hired long time family friend Pat Shurmur as the team’s head coach.
Shurmur led the team to a terrible season and between Holmgren and Shurmur they named Brandon Weeden as the team’s starting quarterback who is incapable of understanding how to play NFL football.
It was Richardson who cam out on national television thinking the cameras were off, and said, the Browns had to simply their offense so that Weeden could understand it and he couldn’t read a NFL defense.
Jim Brown hit the nail right on the head with his comments. Holmgren not only wasted two first round picks in the 2012 draft, he took a 40 million dollar salary from the team and did very little in return.
Holmgren set the team back 5 years with his poor decisions. He didn’t build a winner in Cleveland and he lied to the fans telling them the team was going to be better in 2012 with Weeden running the offense. The Browns finished the 2012 season at 5-11, another losing season in the long list of losing seasons.
