Today is the day guys like Vinnie Pestano and Chris Perez wait all winter long for, today is the day the Cleveland Indians pitcher’s and catcher’s report to spring training in Goodyear Arizona. It won’t be long until the rest of the Cleveland Indians report to Goodyear and shortly after that, the spring training baseball games will start. For Tribe fans the return to spring training gets their blood going, sitting around without baseball is boring to those fans. This year Indians fans have a new reason to optimistic. They have a new manager for their Tribe and they can’t wait to see if Terry Francona is going to lead the Cleveland Indians into the play offs.
Francona is a proven winner and he has made it to the big show before. The Indians hired him at the end of the 2012 season after they fired Manny Acta. The Indians brought him to Cleveland and signed him to a deal to become the teams manager. With the news of Francona taking the helm of the Indians brought interest of big name players. Now that the Indians have Francona running the Indians, it seems easier for the organization to sign bigger named players.
Will this help the Indians win more games in the 2013 season? Tribe fans hope so. It all gets under way today in the Arizona desert. It won’t be long until the boys of summer return to Progressive Field. For Indians fans that day can’t get here fast enough.
