The Browns have had several mini camps and several practices where Browns second year quarterback Brandon Weeden has taken the snaps with the first team. Some think this means Weeden is a sure thing as the team’s starting quarterback this season.
What the fans aren’t considering is the Browns practices don’t include any pass rush, no hitting of the quarterbacks and that makes it easy for Weeden to look good thus far. When the team gets to camp, things are going to get a little tougher for Weeden.
The take on this guy is he folds under pressure. With no pressure this far, of course he is going to look good. Then there is preseason football. The Browns will really get a feel for how much Weeden has improved when he faces real pressure in real game time situations.
Until then, he is just going through the motions. While he isn’t facing any real pressure in camp, he is able to make some nice throws. There is a reason Rob Chudzinski hasn’t named Weeden as the team’s starter yet.
He wants to see what is going to happen once Weeden and the team faces some real pressure in real game time situations. The team said earlier they would give Weeden every chance to become the starting quarterback in Cleveland.
Don’t confuse this with giving him the starting job already. There is still a lot of work to be done before the 2013 season starts. Remember Weeden is the guy who wasn’t smart enough to get out of the way of the American flag last season.
