Everyone was happy to see the return of Andrew Bynum for 8 minutes of play with the Cleveland Cavaliers as they opened their 2013-14 season against the Brooklyn Nets.
But is was a familiar face that pushed the Cavs past the Nets in the final minutes of the season opener. Anderson Varejao hit a couple of baskets in the final minutes of the game to get his Cleveland Cavaliers their first win of the season with new head coach Mike Brown.
Varejao is a fan favorite and he missed a ton of time last season with nagging injuries. If this guy can stay healthy this season he brings a big body that hustles like no body else when he is on the floor.
Varejao fights for the basketball better than most, he sacrifices everything to get rebounds and he led the team in rebounds before going down with injury last season.
He has learned how to score too. The guy has turned into a great player for the Cavs and it is great to see him return. There were a lot of rumors about a Varejao trade, but being one of Dan Gilbert’s favorite players, I didn’t think a trade was likely and last night’s play is one huge reason not to trade a Varejao.
He help the Cavs pull off the 98-94 win and the Cavs are on their way to a good 2013-14 season. Now lets all hope the team stays healthy this season.
