Who said this Cleveland Browns football team couldn’t win? Jason Campbell did something today with the Browns that they haven’t been able to do since November 11th of 2007, he beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-18.
Campbell played most of the game injured. He sustained an injury to his ribs and he was still able to lead the Browns to a 24-18 win over the defending world champion Baltimore Ravens.
Campbell sustained an injury to his ribs, when he was tackled after a scramble. Campbell was tackled and another Baltimore defender fell on top of Campbell trapping the ball between Campbell and the ground.
He had to leave the game and they tended to him on the side-lines. It was clear he was having difficulty breathing. Being the competitor he was he was able to return and help his team win in what Campbell described as a must win game for the Cleveland Browns.
Campbell completed 23 of 35 passes for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns. He now is tied with Weeden in touchdowns and has only played in 2 games.
Campbell show the leadership at quarterback this team needs. His veteran presence and his poise under pressure is something this team hasn’t seen in a while.
He brings solid leadership to the Browns and he is already invaluable in the huddle. This team is in serious contention for the AFC North and now has a winning record in the division at 2-1.
Think about the last time the Browns had a winning record in their division. Campbell gives this team inspiration. There were plenty of question marks surrounding the team jumping over Campbell and starting Hoyer when Weeden got injured.
I contend that the Browns knew what they had with Campbell and they wanted to test the waters with Hoyer. Campbell came in last week and looked like a guy that has played QB in the NFL for a long time.
He has no problem moving this football team. He brings a confidence to the quarterback position that this team couldn’t find with Weeden. The Bye week is here and it is a good thing for Campbell’s health.
The extra time off with help him heal and then it is back to work to get another divisional win over the Bengals. If Campbell and the Browns defense can continue to play the way they did today, this team could go undefeated the rest of this season in their division.
We as Browns fans need to pray for Campbell to stay healthy. Why? Because we know the alternative.
