The Cleveland Browns took Brandon Weeden in the first round with the 22nd pick of the NFL draft. Lets have a look and see how some of these first round quarterbacks fared in their first pre-season game. First up at pick No. 1 Andrew luck, The Colts took Luck withe the first pick of the 2012 draft, he played in his first NFL pre-season game and had a fantastic day. Luck completed 10 out of 16 passes, he had 2 touchdowns and 188 yards of passing. Luck threw a bomb that got The Colts to the 1 yard line and then they scored on another Luck pass play. Never starting an NFL game I would say Luck had a great Day.

The number 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft was none other than Robert Griffin III. The Washington Redskins took RGIII with their first pick in the draft and he played in his first NFL Pre-season game. RGIII completed 4 of the 6 passes he threw, he had 70 yards in the game and 1 touchdown. While RGIII didn’t have as good of a day as Luck had he was still able to lead his Red Skins into the end-zone for a touchdown. Since scoring touchdowns is the goal (pardon the pun) in the NFL I would say RGIII had a successful debut for the Red Skins.

Next up we have the pick of the Miami Dolphins, they took Ryan Tannehill, The Dolphins had Tanehill in his first pre-season game too, Tannehill completed 14 of 21 passes for 167 yards and 1 touchdown. It was the only touchdown the Dolphins had in their game and Tannehill completed 66% of the passes he threw, again another first round quarterback that had a successful weekend in his first pre-season game in the NFL.

Now we come to the Browns 22nd pick in the first round of the draft, Brandon Weeden who also played in his first NFL Pre-season game. Weeden completed 3 of 9 passes for 62 yards. Weeden threw one interception and had one fumble. The Browns probably could have picked Tannehill had they not taken Trent Richardson. The popular pick in Cleveland was for the Browns to take T-Rich. Nobody expected T-Rich to have a problem with his left knee before the guy ever got hit in a football game.

The Browns draft guru’s may have screwed the pouched with these two picks. Weeden certainly didn’t perform like any of the other quarterbacks who played in their first NFL Pre-season game. But hey the season is young and he is old. People say, give the guy a chance and he will improve. Hey, it’s only his first pre-season game, what did you really expect? These are all the things I hear people saying. To tell ya the truth I really expected the Browns to get a quarterback that would perform as well as Luck,RGIII or even Ryan Tannehill. If people were truthful they would take their blinders off and say they too expected a guy who cold play as good as some of the other first round quarterbacks.

But we got Brandon Weeden…..You all know what they say, you can’t teach an old Dawg new tricks, I for one hope that’s not the case for Brandon Weeden…. Go Browns!!!

The expression is “screwed the pooch”. McCoy is still our best QB. Go Browns!
